Can't use pink in dark styles? Bullshit.

I got the inspiration for this post on Gothic Divine. The stereotype is that dark alternative styles cannot and do not incorporate pink elements because pink is girly and not dark at all. I hope you don't believe in the stereotype, because any color can be used and paired with black for darker outfits. Don't believe me? Here's a goth and a metalhead, rocking pink hair:

Pink might not be that common with metalheads and punks, but is quite common in emo, punk-rock and gothic outfits. We've used photos of Lunagoddess (first photo) before on the blog. She's a perfect exampe of how a gothic outfit can be centered around a color, in this case pink. Here's two more photos of her outfits:

I use a lot of pink details in my style and outfits too, so I thought I'd show you guys a few outfits you can pull off that'll incorporate pink, but still look dark:

Do you use pink too or do you think it doesn't belong in alternative styles? I'd love to see some of your outfits.

  1. I suppose that comes down to what one considers 'dark'. For example, except for No. 2 (where pink is used as hair dye, but I can't see it on the actual clothes), any of the photos provided don't show outfits that would count as remotely dark in my book. :/ Way too cutesy. (no offense)

  2. Ah, I said this in the LE post. :) In my opinion, pink is one of the best colors to use with black. I don't own any pink things, but I would love to so I could wear them with some of my black outfits. I have come up with some very interesting outfits on Stardoll with black and pink. I'm glad you posted this. ANY color can be used with black to make a good goth effect, especially pink.

  3. Also, since I forgot to post it in my first post, here are some outfits I have made with pink. Most of them were a while ago. I have some other ones that I remember looked MUCH better, but stupidly, I never saved them. :\

  8. you can use pink with black, they go well together, but the outcome will never be goth or metal, sorry. emo, maybe.

  9. I don't really like to use pink. I doesn't suit me anyway...I prefer light blue maybe or white even.

  11. Now that I've seen what RoyalRuby did...

My first reaction when looking at the group was, "Too much pink." However, when I look at each individual outfit, I actually think they're all great.

    Good job, RoyalRuby!!!

  14. The style is cyber goth.

  15. Why you must label the styles as emo, goth, or anything else? The post says 'dark-styled ourfits', it includes all the dark styled outfits. And it depends on how each person sees this 'dark' . Anyway, all the outfits are great in my opinion, and I like RoyalRuby's too ^^
And here are some old and new ones from me too, i gave it a try xD

  16. I think pink is a gorgeous colour to combine with black^^. In real life I first had some problems including pink in my closet, but with tiny accessoires like a pink cameo,a bag and eye-shadow I'm really happy^^. And people say it looks great.

I love to style my doll in pink sometimes. Here are some of mine:

  17. @Hrw "Why you must label the styles ..... it includes all the dark styled outfits" No, it doesn't. And there is a mile of a difference between eg. punk and gothic, that's why.
This is not about whether the outfits look good, they are all perfectly OK in my opinion, but whether they are "dark" in any sense of the word, which they are not.

I agree with anon about cybergoth.

  18. Well, I have nothing against pink... but I can't say that I love it ^^
Anyways, I really believe that any color can be mixed with black and create a nice dark outfit... it depends the items you're mixing...

  19. I know it's cyber goth, I'm not stupid. and I don't know how some of you can say pink can't be used when it's so obviously used in the 4 real life photos. and very well too. even if it's not cyber goth, even if you/we have a not-so-typical style, it can still incorporate pink. I don't think ANY dark styles should be black-only, thinking like that is in my opinion very narrow-minded. aren't we the people that are breaking the molds?

  20. I must ask one question.. what is the exact difference between 'cyber' goth and anything else? I was unaware that there were so many different types of goth. I am amazed that there is even enough possibilities. Can't you do only so much with chains or spikes or studs? Colors and whatnot? What other types of goth are there? Slightly same with 'metal' music. I've heard so many different types of metal my head hurt. Folk, black, death, white, soft, punk, heavy, screamo, satanic... more than that, lol. Where does it end? That is rhetorical, by the way. It probably doesn't.

  21. @MissVampire Any effort is wasted on you, innit? Nobody said dark styles should be black-only, and I was refering solely to the four real life photos from the beginning. Btw. NO MATTER HOW GOOD THEY LOOK they are the most generic, cliched, unreative cybergoth you can get. Practically an insult to the style.

@RoyalRuby7395 Try this amazing new feature called "google search", you’d be surprised how many of your not-so-rhetorical questions it will answer in less than five seconds.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude. I’m just bloody tired of wannabes who bastardize other people’s styles and have the audacity to say "why not?"

    ReplyDelete
  22. because "why not?" it's what makes a difference.... originality isnt defined by anyone and I believe anyone can use whatever color they make fricking love...you sound like my grandmother saying "this is what yiouur supposed to wear"...just in case I'm Vianka626 in stardoll :)..
