New currency: Starcoins (must read)(updated)

If you logged in today, you should've seen a pop-up message, informing you about a new currency. This is another big change to the website. A link should be provided, bringing you to this page:

It says there are more ways to earn Starcoins and that Stardollars will from now on be superstar-only. If this is all still confusing, this should clear things up:

(superstar and non-superstar exchange)

(exchange for previous superstars with 10% commission)
One Stardollar is now worth ten Starcoins. It's the same basic principle as euros and cents or dollars/pounds and pennies. Starcoins can be earned by rating, customizing and creating almost anything on Stardoll.

If you want to know your way around Stardoll with the new currency and all of their new tricks, you should read this:

Down-sides:
- Notice the first catch? When exchanging Stardollars to Starcoins, you lose 10%. That means that superstars whose ss membership expires get their Stardollars converted to Starcoins and by that lose 10% of their money.

- Another down-side is that we can only earn 40 Starcoins per day - which is only 4 Stardollars.

- The list of activities we have to do to get the 40 Starcoins is long too - and some of the things can't be done on daily bases (like starting a club) and for doing some of the listed we would have to spend at least 11 Stardollars or 110 Starcoins;
Buy a gift - 10 Starcoins,
Broadcast - 50 StarCoins,
Starplaza purchase - 10 Starcoins,
Buy a StarDesign item - 40 Starcoins,
We'd have to spend at least 110 Starcoins to make 40 Starcoins. We'd basically have to spend almost thrice as much as we'd make.
I might do a tutorial later on how to get the 40 Starcoins and avoid spending more.

- If the collectibles will still be provided when making all of the money, they will be much harder to get.

- Once you do something from the list and earn a few Starcoins (for example accept a friend's request), the whole website becomes really slow and you can't do anything for 5 to 10 seconds (depending on the speed of your computer and internet connection).

- There are less ways for non-superstars to earn the Starcoins because they can't broadcast, use the StarBazaar or the StarDesign section etc.

- The only way to get stardollars (and thus superstar items) is now to buy them with real money.

- Non-superstars can no longer obtain superstar items through StarBazaars.

- Non-superstar-bought items can only be sold for 500 Starcoins or 50 Stardollars.

Up-sides:
- We can make 1000 Starcoins per month.
- We can reserve items.
- Non-superstars can recycle.

Purchases:
The superstar items will stay in the old currency - Stardollars, while the non-superstar items will now be in Starcoins.

Does anyone see how bad this new currency is or is it just me? 'Cause I just don't see all the positive aspects Stardoll and Underneath Stardoll do. I'll keep researching and updating this post.

EDIT: We just recieved this fancy letter from Stardoll. I thought I should make their scammery clear so I added the red parts of the text next to each reason why we'll love hate it it:

EDIT: The final changes were made. The items that were bought as non-superstar will now only be able to be sold in Starcoins. The Starbazaar has been divided to Superstar and Non-superstar or Starcoins sections. This means non-superstars won't be able to obtain superstar items through StarBazaars any more. It also means that valuables (such as first season DKNY) that were bought when they were non-superstars will now only be able to be sold for 500 Starcoins - or 50 Stardollars, which is (as seen on the photo) the Starcoins limit. The only good thing I see here is the new "Reserved" function. They should have thought of that one before, it would prevent a lot of scams. I've added all of these to the Up-sides and Down-sides lists above.

  1. Question :
We should spend the 40 starcoins in one day?

  2. I don't think so 'cause if you click on your Starcoins, you can see "My activity earned starcoins" and "My starcoins" - and below the starcoins thing you can see it say the amount you have and "Max 1000", so I think we can save them, but only 1000 (which is 100 Stardollars). I'm not sure though so I'll have to wait a bit until I add it to the up-sides and down-sides.

  3. I'm already finding this quite annoying. It looks like non-superstars are going to have to work extra hard to buy stuff.

What made stardoll decide to add a new currency system anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  4. What is this!?!?!?

  5. Fantastic the Starcoins, I like the activities notebook a lot - just like in FARMVILLE

  8. this is not good at all, they shouldve kept it as it was, im a superstar but its unfair to my friends that are not superstars, i bought my friend a bunch of gifts today because she was sad because of this, your right its way too difficult to earn the 40 starcoins in a day, takes way too long!

  9. WEll u are wrong about one thing. non ss can also get 40 sd perday. i got it, and i never bought a thing nor send a gift or did anything else, just voted voted and comented added joined and redecoratedd . and i got all 40 ....but my biggest worry si about my ss acount which wil expire in next 2 months.....all i can say is fuck u STARDOLL

  10. The previous system was good... why did they change it? Of course, I already know the answer: stardoll - it's all about money.

If you design your own clothes, you get 2 starcoins. When I design a scarf it costs 50 starcoins. Come on, you have to spend more than you get!

But what annoys me the most is that everybody is going to invite friends, just to get money. Well done stardoll!

  11. @Anonymous: I never said non-superstars can't get 40 Starcoins per day. I said they'd have to spend money to do some of the things on the list.

    ReplyDelete
  12. It's not hard to get the 40 sc. I just voted. Took like 5 min.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It's surely harder/longer than before when it took a few clicks for 5 stardollars. now it's ten times more clicks for 4 stardollars.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I find it compicated...I hate the fact that I will lose 10% of the money I paid with my real money...:|

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well you don't have to spend starcoins to earn them

    ReplyDelete
  16. oh and thank you for posting all the negatives of this system because it seems that stardoll wants to confuse us and make us believe that this new system is much better..

    ReplyDelete
  17. Absolutely nothi8ng Stardoll does is for our benefit.Every time they introduce something new it ends up taking our money. Remember when they changed it so you could sell something for 500sd instead of previous 60sd limit? They also added in a tax on selling things so they get our money for every single thing we sell. It really makes me mad becuase before I used to transfer money between my dolls as needed, and all a sudden I'm being charged for it. I wish I wasn't so addicted to this Stardoll - I'd like to tell them to stick it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Stardoll becomes more and more stupid. What will follow? Stardoll credit cards and banks? And seriously, now the non superstars will have to do all these "fun stuff" to earn 4 stardollars? -.- The only good thing of all these is that you earn starpoints by voting and creating.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Superstars whose ss membership expires DOES NOT automatically get their Stardollars converted to Starcoins. It's already said in the first pic that"PREVIOUS SUPERSTARS: YOU CAN EXCHANGE YOUR STARDOLLARS TO STARCOINS IF YOU LIKE, OR KEEP THEM UNTIL YOU UPGRADE AGAIN TO SUPERSTAR."

    ReplyDelete
  20. got some answers from stardoll.
u can earn 1200 starcoins per month but you need to spend some
    no xchange fee for SS
if u membership run out u choose yourself if you want to xchange or no9t...I like

  21. So what I am getting is that, 'IF' they change our SB to coins only, then we will NOT be able to earn the SD for free, to pay for items that are sold in SD's. It sounds as if all SD items will only be able to be bought with real money from now on...at least that's what I am gathering so far from ALL this information. If this is correct, then SO many of us are completely screwed!!!! Whether you are SS or non-SS. Plus sending your 3000+ broadcasts to run for album, CG, etc, is now gonna cost you SO much more, since you will HAVE to convert SD's to coins, losing SD's in the process and having paid for them with REAL MONEY, being taxed unless you want to SAVE your coins for A FREAKIN year just to run for something. SUCH BS!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Anonymous: yes, you don't have to exchange them for Starcoins, but that means you either lose 10% of the money or you have to become superstar again. you lose money either way.

    ReplyDelete
  23. So far and from what I've read and experienced in Stardoll, it will be like living in a country with two currencies.
This is stupidity to the highest level!!!
It's going to drive an even wider wedge between SS and non-SS - you can exchange yr SD into SC but the reverse is not possible which will mean non-SS with no SD's will no longer be able to purchase from Starbazaar (Starbazaar is under maintenance so I can't verify this yet).
Also this way will mean we'll have to work twice as hard to get some SC and some of the easiest ways will imply getting spammed with friend requests, having yr GB invaded by meaningless messages and useless, non-sense comments in yr album and sceneries. Have I left anything out? I'm sure I have cuz all these changes are just too big to take in with only 15 minutes of surfing on Stardoll...Oh yes, almost forgot, SD will only be available to those who buy them with real money be that from yr membership allowance or through additional recharges...!

  24. I have a question...

This morning I earned 40 starcoins and I didn't spend them, I saved it. After a few hours I logged in (again) and it says that I have 2 starcoins (only for logging in).

Maybe I'm stupid, but I don't understand it ^^. Do you have to spend your 40 starcoins immediately? Because now they are gone and I have to do all those stupid things again to earn coins...

    Thanks

    Fatima

  25. WTF Stradoll?
My account I have worked hard on for 3 years straight has over 2,00sd and is expiring in 2 days! I can't top up my superstar to avoid my money getting taken becaus I went over my limit on my phone! That means that the 10euro I paid to keep my account and its business floating is going to go bust in 2 days... I will loose all my star dollars and get a tax of 10%!
Comeone stardoll? ARE YOU FREAKIN KIDDING ME!
I have spent hundreds of euro on this account and now every dime I put into it will be woth nothing in two days.
....I am i the mood to write a strongly worded letter :/

    STardol name : xChanel23x

  26. This is just sick ... I mean, I'm on stardoll for 4 years now and this is the stupidest thing EVER! At least they should allow non-SS to sell items for Starcoins and allow SS to change starcoins for Stardollars ... Oh, and I forgot to mention that stardoll isn't replying to my post for more than a year ... who could understand them???!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. IT'S ORRIBLE !
Everyone has got starcoins,so even superstars we'll be foced to use them if they want to sell something at starbazaar.
Yes,stardollars can be changed into starcoins...but the only way to get stardollars is TO PAY.REAL MONEY ! because we can't change starcoins into stardollars !
So the common value will be starcoins, that value much less than stardollars...and stardollars will be just a avlue for elite, for the ones that can afford to pay real money.
Are they making fool of us or something ?!

I tried to write this on underneath stardoll...holy sky, they alla look so happy about that.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I didnt understand the new coins, its complicated...'cause theres bad and good things about it!! :/

    ReplyDelete
  29. Actually, this is THE BEST add-on ever.
You, people will understand me after a while.
The only problem I see is that non-SS can't buy designs of SS... That's a very bad thing. I sent them a message about this. THIS needs to be fixed. Eerything else, like I said is VERY GOOD. You will understand once you will get a hang on of the situations!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think I'm leaving stardoll soon.. :/

    ReplyDelete
  31. WTF! I hate it ¬¬ aaarggg i even trow my food when i saw this o.0 this is so unfair :( I used to be very positive but about this I only can see the negatives sides :S ((sorry about my bad english, this make me really sad))

    ReplyDelete
  32. It sucks.

It just takes far to long for me to be bothered.

    ReplyDelete
  33. @sasa: I understand the situation very well, I spent quite some time figuring out and I don't think I'll ever see any positive aspects. all I see is a big scam to get our money. what do you see? I'd love to know what's so good about it..

    ReplyDelete
  34. We all need to let Stardoll how much we dislike it, maybe if hundreds of us send letters then it'll get changed back? Small chance, but still. :/ It's just a big, obvious scam.

  35. Good post. Thank you!

Regarding Stardoll's statement: "Now everyone can recycle, and even more than one item per day!" You commented, "But only get one Starcoin per item." Well, today I recycled two items and noticed that I didn't get Starcoins for them. Instead, I got one Stardollar (yes, Stardollar!) per recycled item. It was probably a glitch, but please verify.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Forgot to mention that I could recycle only two items. The third time, I was asked to "remove" (not to "recycle") or to cancel.

My Starcoin total so far is of 25. So, no, I haven't yet reached the limit of 40 Starcoins per day.

    ReplyDelete
  37. @crystaljoy I don't use broadcast anymore. I just spam guestbooks and make 300 a day. :D Sometimes even more. SO screw paying for broadcast!! I Never did anyway!!! Don't waste your money. Spamming is best :D

BY THE WAY, THIS WHOLE STARCOINS DEBACLE IS ABSOLUTE CRAP. ALL SD WANTS TO DO IS TAX THE HELL OUT OF US SO WE HAVE NO MONEY. CAN YOU IMAGINE - EXCHANGE 1500 SD'S FOR STARCOINS. HOW MUCH TAX WOULD THAT BE? HOW MUCH MONEY DO WE LOSE THERE?

HAVING TO PAY FOR SOMETHING (WHILE DESIGNING) IN STARCOINS, IS PRETTY EFFING GAY TOO! BUT I'M THINKING AS LONG AS I MAKE ENOUGH MONEY WITH THEIR STUPID NEW PLAY AND EARN THEN I WON'T HAVE TO CONVERT AND LOSE 10 PERCENT! ****ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THIS SHITTT PLAN. BUT THAT'S IF I CAN EARN ENOUGH MONEY TO BUY ALL THE STARCOINS MERCHANDISE I WANT IN THE SB AND FOR DESIGNING WALLPAPER AND SO FORTH.

SOMEONE NEEDS TO START A PETITION!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. WHAT 'BOUT FIRST SEASON LE, IS THAT ONLY WORTH 50 BUCKS TOO????!!!! O M G.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The 1 Stardollar per recycled item was not a glitch. You can earn up to 2 Stardollars (not Starcoins) a day by recycling. And it is apart from the 40 Starcoins daily limit, obviously.

    ReplyDelete
  40. your example of dkny its exactly what has happend to me! i have items worth 800starcoins and more and now i can sell them less than 500 its rediculus! the are non ss but they are true rares! WE MUST DO SOMETHING

    ReplyDelete
  41. I hate starcoins! adding a zero doesn't even make a difference! >:(

    ReplyDelete
  42. We actually don't get taxed. Only previous superstars do! So if your currently superstar and you want to exchange, you don't have anything 2 worry about. You won't be taxed. Unless your membership expired and you are coming back.

    ReplyDelete
  43. in addition gifts are paid using starcoins and non ss can t buy them! great fucking great(by the way youn can t post complains in the blog, because i tried to do it and stardoll didn t let me )it sucks

    ReplyDelete
  44. now I have found that serious reason to quit stardoll. the fuck is happening, I have never been an expert in money (I can get confused when buying a chocolate), and I hate, HATE the new system, I HATE YOU STARDOLL, and I've been a loyal member for 4 years, I thought I have already seen everything fucked up you can come up with.

At first, I was like: Yay! Hey, I can get more then 100 'starcoins' in three days! Wow, I'm rich!

Then I realized 'starcoins' are only ONE TENTH the worth of 'stardollars'.

    *Blank stare*

Gee, thanks stardoll. We can see you care so, SO much for your non-SS members.
